A super-thin layer of EXP Coating is fused to the nickel-plated steel wrap wire before it’s wound onto a hex-shaped core, creating a barrier against grime, sweat, and oxidation without dulling the string underneath.
What you get is a genuinely round-wound feel under your fingers and a bright, booming voice that still sounds like a fresh set — because it stays fresh three to four times longer than an uncoated string would. There’s no rubbery or muted quality here; D’Addario’s EXP process was built to preserve the exact tone and response players expect from the standard XL bass line, just with a much longer usable life.
