Description
The EXP74CM set solves a common mandolin dilemma: choosing between the EXP74 and EXP75 gauges. D’Addario built this custom medium set by blending both, giving players a tailored balance of playing tension and tone across all four courses. The result is a warm, bright phosphor bronze voice with the projection and string-to-string consistency mandolin players look for, wrapped in loopend construction that fits standard mandolin tailpieces.
Underneath the coating is D’Addario’s NY High Carbon Steel core—a hexagonal, break-resistant wire developed and drawn in-house at their New York facility. It’s paired with premium wrap wire and finished with a micro-thin coating applied on precision machinery, so the set keeps its natural, uncoated feel and tone while lasting up to four times longer than typical strings.
Highlights:
- Custom-gauged for even balance and tonal consistency between strings
- Loopend design for universal mandolin compatibility
- Phosphor bronze winding for warm, bright, long-lasting tone
- Manufactured in the U.S.A. to strict quality standards
- Gauges: Plain Steel .0115/.0115, .016/.016; Phosphor Bronze Wound .026/.026, .040/.040
- Packaged in corrosion-resistant, eco-conscious materials to preserve freshness
Whether you’re upgrading a bluegrass mandolin or restringing for a session, the EXP74CM offers a reliable, long-lived tone that stays true to phosphor bronze character from the first strum onward.
