EXL170-5TP bundles two sets of D’Addario’s most popular 5-string bass strings, giving long-scale players a ready backup or a fresh set on hand without reordering. The EXL170-5 formula extends the legendary EXL170 4-string recipe with a .130 low B, rounding out the low end while keeping the bright, articulate top strings that made the original set a standard among bassists.
Each string is round wound with nickel-plated steel wrap wire over a hex core, a construction chosen for its magnetic responsiveness and balanced output across pickups. D’Addario winds every string on digitally controlled machinery, which keeps diameter and tension consistent along the entire length for accurate intonation and a stable fundamental pitch, string to string and set to set.
This gauge combination (.045, .065, .080, .100, .130) suits a wide range of musical styles, from funk slap to rock and studio session work, thanks to its blend of snap and low-end weight. The set is built for long-scale 5-string basses with a scale length up to 36 1/4 inches.
