EXL110BT takes D’Addario’s familiar Regular Light gauging (.010-.046) and reworks it through Balanced Tension math. Instead of each string carrying whatever tension its gauge happens to produce, the set is calculated so resistance is equalized across all six strings, meaning your fretting hand doesn’t have to adjust pressure as you move from the low E to the high E.
The core tone comes from D’Addario’s XL Nickel Wound construction: nickel-plated steel wrapped around a hexagonal high-carbon steel core, drawn to tight tolerances. That build is what’s made XL the reference nickel wound string for decades – bright, articulate, with intonation that holds up under repeated bending and picking.
Where Balanced Tension pays off is in playability. Bending on the wound strings feels closer to bending on the plains, strumming across the set feels more uniform, and slapping or plucking dynamics stay more predictable string to string, since you’re not fighting a sudden jump in tension when you cross from a plain to a wound gauge.
