Description
The D’Addario EXL150 is a full 12-string set built specifically for the demands of doubled courses. Rather than adapting a standard 6-string gauge, D’Addario engineered this set with paired strings that track and blend cleanly, so unison and octave courses ring true without fighting each other for tuning stability.
Each string uses D’Addario’s XL nickel wound construction: nickel-plated steel wrap wire wound over a hexagonal high-carbon steel core. The hex core’s six edges bite into the wrap wire during winding, locking it in place for a tighter wind and a string that holds its tone and intonation over time rather than degrading string by string.
Tonally, these are round wound strings, so players get the familiar textured feel and the bright, articulate sound nickel-plated steel is known for across rock, pop, country, and beyond. The added shimmer of the 12-string layout makes this brightness especially useful for cutting through a mix or filling out a solo arrangement.
Gauges included: .010/.010, .013/.013, .017/.008, .026w/.012p, .036w/.018p, .046w/.026w.
