This Jim Dunlop Performance+ set uses a light-top/heavy-bottom gauge arrangement — .010, .013, .017, .030, .042, .052 — pairing easy bendability on the plain strings with extra low-end muscle for rhythm work and dropped riffs. The nickel wound construction gives you a familiar, well-rounded voice: bright top end, present mids, and a low end that stays tight rather than boomy, so single notes cut through and full chords stay defined at any gain level.
Dunlop engineered this Performance+ line to balance flexibility with playing tension, aiming to let the electric guitar’s natural tonal range come through regardless of rig or playing style. Rather than adapting an existing formula, the company built these strings from scratch based on direct input from touring musicians. Production happens at Dunlop’s Benicia, California facility, where machines are run at a deliberately slower pace in smaller batches — a method that gives them tighter control over consistency from string to string and set to set. Each pack is sealed for freshness so tone stays intact until you’re ready to restring.
